In 1984 the Universal House of Justice wrote to the youth of the world expressing its longing that the youth become more deliberately and numerously involved in the international work of the Cause either at home or abroad, in short term or long term projects in the teaching or development field.
"Undoubtedly, it is within your power to contribute significantly to shaping the societies of the coming century;
youth can move the world."
Letter to the Bahá'í Youth of the World January 3rd 1984
Giving a year of service is a unique opportunity. The year you dedicate to
serving Bahá'u'lláh will help you progress
in every way, especially spiritually. You will increase your love and knowledge
of the Bahá'i Faith and you will meet new
friends who, like yourself, yearn to work for the transformation of society.
What services does the Desk provide?
YOSDesk is
here to assist UK youth from the age of 12 - 25
Preparation Workshops are organised to assist you to plan and prepare both spiritually and practically. These will be available for all youth from the age of 12.
A MESSAGE FROM THE YEAR OF SERVICE DESK
All
over the world, Bahá'ís are establishing teaching activities and development
projects showing their commitment to Bahá'u'lláh's Revelation. Some youth go to
remote areas and help in hospitals, others build Bahá'í centres. Many go and
work in schools or help on Temple lands, and many more are involved in direct
teaching.
Wherever you go in the field of service you are blessed as well as
tested. One thing is certain - a YOS changes you!
YOSDesk has an
administrative procedure of application forms which is your Bahá'í
CV.
YOSDesk also looks into projects to see if there would be any problems
the volunteer should be aware of with regards to climate, communication, and
social and economic conditions.
Why use the Year of Service Desk?
The Universal
House of Justice requested our National Spiritual Assembly to co-ordinate YOS
activities for the UK youth. Our National Spiritual Assembly authorised YOSDesk
to fulfil this obligation. It is safer for you to seek your opportunity through
YOSDesk. Sometimes projects are not recommended by our National Assembly as
suitable. If you find your own project, still register because if a problem
arises during your YOS then YOSDesk has the administration and consultative
status to help sort out problems.

Sylvia keeps a register of the applicants and details of the workshops. Ring Sylvia if you want these details or application forms, or you are just wanting a chat about where to go for your YOS. Phone/fax: 01704 551514
