Rob Hain

Rob has been painting full-time for fourteen years and during that time has exhibited throughout his local Scottish Borders, Edinburgh, London and has a permanent work in central Glasgow - A ceiling mural in the award-winning Italian Centre.

Rob's involvement with the community includes a regular art class for those in sheltered accommodation under the wing of the Scottish Association for Mental Health. He has also been artist-in-residence at 'Integration in Action', a summer playscheme for children with severe physical disabilities and learning difficulties, and at the 'Tweed Festival', a month-long community arts project which brought him into further contact with children and adults who previously had little exposure to the arts and the obvious benefits it can bring. A founder member of Scottish Borders Arts Network (SBAN), Rob is keenly aware of the positive role the arts can play in a vibrant, democratic and spiritually enlightened society.

"Artistic expression, in many ways, is a non-intellectual process, and is therefore ideally placed as a means of expression for those either without or with a diminished power of intellectual thought. As Tolstoy wrote: 'Whereas by means of words a man transmits his thoughts, by means of art he transmits his feelings.'"
