The true seeker hunteth naught but the object of his quest, and the lover hath no desire save union with his beloved. Nor shall the seeker reach his goal unless he sacrifice all things. Before a search of any kind it is necessary to first clear out all the accumulated junk which will prevent acquisition of new things, or - in this case - new ideas. The painting attempts to depict this process, which is a necessary prerequisite to understanding all subsequent Valleys.
